Westwood with a good chance to take solo 1st again. Tiger's game looks off.

So Hank Haney, Tiger's swing coach, has resigned. Haney retooled Tiger's swing after the 2004 season, and he's been a more consistent winner in the latter part of his career because of it. However, in his past 2 events (Quail Hollow, MC, TPC, WD), his swing has looked awful. He's hit a couple of shots with the 3-wood that just popped up (think nose up in dg terms) went under 200 yards (think 275' with a Boss).

So when will Tiger get his swing worked out?

In other news, Tim Clark, the man who has made the most money on the PGA tour without a win, finally broke through on Sunday at TPC Sawgrass, carding a 66 67 on the weekend to win. Tim has been around a while, and has been a solid player for a lot of the international competitions as well as the President's Cup, so it's good to see him get that elusive win. Still not winning are Lee Westwood (3nd place) and Robert Allenby (2nd place).

I think people are watching less golf because of Tiger's struggles, but the outcome of the tournament is a lot more guesswork now. Keep in mind Tiger wins over 25% of the PGA events he tees it up in. That's an absurd amount. Ben Hogan is next at 20%. The great Jack Nicholas? A shade over 12%. So it's nice to see some new people winning, even though I'd like to see Tiger play well again, because he hits shots no one else can hit.

I was glad to see Clark finally win but I have been rooting for Westwood since the Masters. The man deserves a win.

This year's open is totally up in the air. Any thoughts? I really like Zach Johnson; a shorter fairway hitting machine. Pebble is not a bomber course, and the US Open already favors those who can put it in the fairway.

i had the us open playing on the radio at work....and it was the best.
i never had so much fun listening to a huge fail....but i feel bad for the guy

It was pretty tough for me to watch D.J. collapse that bad but I really enjoyed watching the course cripple the mental game of great golfers. It was also a touching moment when Tom Watson finished his round with his son caddying.

I read an article on ESPN.com about the tourney and many folks were quite upset in the comment section. The general consensus was that the course was too difficult / unfair and didn't make for an entertaining tourney. I do agree that it was quite tough for someone to "push" big (really hard to string together multiple birdies, make miraculous shots) but you really had to grind it out and keep it together. Other major's don't test mental games like the open does, THE WINNER WON SHOOTING THREE OVER PAR ON SUNDAY!!! The other guys had a chance, Dustin Johnson forgot how to play, Els couldn't putt, Phil started talking to himself, Tiger makes excuses al la Feldberg, etc...
