I think i saw Chimay mentioned somewhere in this thread...and if not, it should be...especially the Grand Reserve! One of my local liquor stores had it on clearance for $2 a bottle (normally $5-6). Needless to say I stocked up

...and if you're ever in Texas, try a Shiner Bock.

For across the water stuff that you don't have to go too far out of your way to pick up, most of the brews from Chimay are tough to beat.

I was amazed this topic went almost to the end of 6 pages before Chimay even got any mention.

have any of you guys who dig chimay tried any other of the belgin trappist ales? I can't remember there names off the top of my head, but dan they are good. I'm pretty sure there are only 6 trappist ales. look by the chimay in your nicer liquo stores and you can find a couple more. damn those monks can brew a good beer

Aww....that really hurts my feelings. It's alright though - I didnt like Shiner at first either, but then I learned what good beer tastes like.

As for other trappist ales, I've had Konings Hoeven and Orval before, but that was back when I first started trying beers other than Bud Light and High Life...couldn't tell you if I liked them or not. Maybe, for the sake of research of course, I'll pick up a few tonight and post my reviews tomorrow..

its good to see some good beer tastes on here. I was surprised saturday when I went to play a round at my local couse and about every 3 or 4 holes there was either a chimay bottle in the trash or cap on the ground. I bet that was one of the classiest dg'ers around.

That's a great beer bar. Many years ago I was out there and really enjoyed it, as well as the Magnolia Brewpub just footsteps from where the Dead used to live. The murals on the wall were quite psychedelic!

Shiner Bock is okay; for those not in Texas, it's a slightly harsher Michelob Amber.

That is very good!

I also am a big fan of Sam Adams, and have been trying some of Great Lakes stuff since they are only about an hour from me. I bought a case of Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold last night, and was pretty impressed.
