Scariest bug you found in your room?

Postby Jsw » Fri May 28, 2010 3:10 am

I've discovered mine. Meet the "common" house centipede...

Image

I've never seen one of these things in my life. And I've ran into 2 of them in the last few weeks, including tonight.

2 things I've learned on my own about them through my brief encounters...

- Creepy as fuck.
- Fast as fuck.

Dead serious, these things have two speeds; completely still - or - 63.7 miles per fucking hour.

Most people don't know this, but one actually beat Usain Bolt by .02 seconds in the 100 meter event of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Don't believe me? Take a look at this previously unpublished photograph of the race. (Notice the dust-cloud in lane 2)

Image

Did a little Google action on them(seeing as I wasn't planning on going back to sleep after seeing it retreat under my fucking bed  ). Turns out they are ferocious, carnivorous, predators of the night. They eat all the shit I should actually be scared of(bed bugs, silverfish, roaches, etc). They kill their prey by running them down, ensnaring them in their long, numerous legs, and injecting them with venom

And after seeing one do a wind-sprint across my floor, I imagine they don't go hungry very often.*Shudders*

Now that I've been educated on them, I think they are kind of cool. Maybe I should stop being such a pussy but - damn they creep me out.

Your thoughts?

Cool. I have cataloged a good deal of house arthropods in my house in the past. Scariest? Probably the parasites that were running rampant through my reptiles. (Close enough) What you can't see is what you fear.

Judging by the fact that you used the word, "fuck" four times in your post, you find them as scary as I do.

By far the scariest thing I have seen in my life.

Truth. When I re-read my post I was concerned that it was a little F-bomb saturated. However I really needed to get my point across, and since I'm not much of a wordsmith, that means heavy use of expletives.

God damn! I guess one positive of living in the frigid north where we have fucking snow on the ground this morning is that none of that shit can survive up here.

When I was living in Australia the scariest bug I came across living in the same room as me was probably a huntsman spider. The things were bigger than my fucking hand.

MSpaint + lack of sleep delirium.

That spider is no joke! I don't care much for spiders either, but atleast I feel like I could outrun them.

Yeah, those centipedes are super common in anything with a basement in most of the states I've lived in. Virginia especially. I've learned to ignore them (mostly :x ).
