Finnish field events long distance championships vid

Postby JR » Tue Jun 08, 2010 1:02 am

It contains only some of the throws. The first guy threw 201 meters at Big D 8 taking second place. I was surprised about his slow steps.

The second thrower asked for comments on his form at Finnish frisbee association forums. This vid is relevant here thanks to our very own tumpsi starting at 2:03. So any comments are appreciated. Tumpsi took fourth place.

The second thrower in this video needs to run faster and reach back farther. Throwing lower helps to keep the front of the disc lower than the rear keeping the speed and glide better giving a longer flight.

Tumpsi could reach back a lot farther and plant foot pointed at 180 degrees away from the target for added power generation. The flat footed planting looks painful. And dangerous in the long term. Short term too if the ground ain't slippery.
Flat shots need running on the center line of the tee and planting each step on the center line. Anhyzer needs running from rear right to front left with the plant step hitting the ground to the left of the line you're running on. Hyzer is the mirror of that.

The longest throw was 180m (590'). Tumpsi's best was 143m (470').

Any comments on form anyone? And how did you like the first guy throwing so steeply upward?

Distance lines really escape me. I don't think it would have occurred to me naturally that throwing giant spike anhyzers is the way to go. That said, it seems like a lot of these guys are robbing themselves of distance by stopping or slowing way down into their runups. A few of them like the second and third guys just stutterstep from their runups to their x-steps and I feel like that has to be costing them something. I'm guessing they all throw farther than me, though, so maybe that's just me nitpicking. I just think of javelin throwers pulling through the throw rather than to it, and I don't really see these guys doing it.

The second guy threw 157 meters with his best attempt IIRC.
