Old Disc? What is it?

Postby Fritz » Sat Mar 04, 2006 3:23 pm

So I played disc with a guy the other day that was just on the course and asked if he coudl join me and a friend. We said sure. He told us a story of how he just moved here from Atlanta and had finally healed enough from his shoulder surgy to start playing again. Older guy mid 50's maybe... Anyway he had this weird disc.

It had a almsot flat rim about .5" to 1" wide and on top had little ridges kinda like the Wham-O discs. Under the disc it says DGA, PDGA Approved.
Anyone know what this disc is called? He was using it as a putter.

he had a really really nice XD Aviar (what it said on teh stamp) he was using as his driver. Said almsot all his discs he uses are from the 80's

This was hard plastic it wasn't the gummy plastic like that. It was very old. The stamp on it if it helps any said the Year of the Dragon, and had chinese characters on it and a kewl chinese dragon.

EDIT: I did the research and if it was a disc from the year of the Dragon it was 1988.

Yea, but I've seen discs from 2000 and I'm pretty sure it's not a disc that was made in 2k. I could be wrong but it definately looked older then that.

I owned a number of DGA discs when I started playin in '87. Gumputt and Powerdrive are the two that come to mind. I think I still have a Gumputt or two laying around.

The Aviar XD was one of my first discs and to this day one of my favorites. Want to hear someting amusing? The Aviar, Aero and 86 mold were all considered drivers back in the mid 80's. The 86 mold, which evolved into the 86 softie actually held the distance record until beaten by the P-38 Lightning.

Wait..... you newbies probably have no clue what I'm talking about do you?
