177 2FR Buzzz...almost a FWY driver

This is what I've been thinking.

I've been using my buzzzes and comets for everything 400' and under (with some obvious exceptions where a driver is called for) lately and have had really good success. For one, they don't fade nearly as hard and don't skip as far as true drivers. I'm really surprised that more people don't use Rocs/Buzzzes/Comets/Etc for this length vs something like a TB. I know the obvious answer of people not having the power but I think many more people do but have been seduced by the "latest and greatest" from the manufacturers telling them they "need" a driver.

Thoughts?

I stop considering a mid outside of about 360' on flat ground, but sometimes I'll use a PD on a 320' shot because I have to hit a tight gap off the tee and I want to throw very effortlessly and accurately.

Read your review of the Fuse. I'm curious. You're using the Goldline right now. I think you said that's the more understable of the two, right? How would these compare to a comet? I'm considering moving up a little in speed for my straight/understable mids up to 375'.

How much more stable is the opto than the gold? Is it like an x comet vs a z comet? X Buzz vs Z Buzz? Would an opto and buzz be too much of an overlap? Just curious.

The Fuse is not as touchy with the release as a Comet. It can be thrown lower and harder. Stability-wise I would not call the Opto I tried understable and it did overlap with my Buzzzes, but the GL takes about 30 degrees of hyzer for me to throw it hard and fly straight for 350'. My GL Fuses (orange 177-178) are hands down the best Buzzz compliment I've ever thrown. I LOVE it.

My 2 cents on the driver vs. mid: I reach for my Eagles for anything above 300(ish) and it is mainly due to the fact that I am more accurate when easing the throttle with a fairway driver than blasting a mid. Furthermore, drivers penetrate the wind much better and are less prone to being drastically effected by wind over the course of 300-350 feet than a midrange is.

I think there are 2 valid sides to this. First, I don't think many people learn to throw their mids hard accurately where they will throw hard and accurate shots with drivers/distance drivers. This is a good skill to have because it is advantageous in many situations because you get different lines pushing your mids/putters out there than you do with drivers. This can definitely be taken too far. No matter how far you throw, a 350' hole requires careful consideration before you choose a mid because of wind and the tendencies of mids to straighten out over that kind of distance and not fade.

I just took some Destroyers out because I've been really killing my S-PDs more consistently.

175 S-PD--seasoned, all sorts of glidey hyzers/S shots/straight distance
172 S-PD--new and more stable than my other, for max D
175 C-PD--overstable for wind, open hyzers, S shots

I've been really liking my S-PDs as my main distance drivers. My AJ Destroyer has not been doing all that much for me, so I picked up some Bossses. After 6/7 months without the Boss, it's nice to have one back in the bag. It's certainly better for the slot than the Destroyer as it is faster, longer, and actually has more glide as well. It also helps that I got a couple in red champy-star just like my PDs.

I thought the same thing when I went back to the Boss. The E*Boss is one of the best distance discs I've ever thrown. Just soooo much glide and it doesn't start out as overstable as the normal star does.

The Z Nuke is now in the bag alongside my overstable Bosses. Nothing else has changed much, although I lost my favorite Buzzz, so now I'm playing with a backup. I do have a smaller bag I've been using when I go out and play with my 6 month old daughter.
