contra - any
castlevania - any
rygar
metroid
double dragon - any
(though the third one isn't that great)
zelda
battle toads
dracula
techmo bowl
nightmare on elm street
bad dudes
duck hunt
california games
galaga
ghosts n goblins
wrestle mania
kung fu
kid icarus
mario bros - any
megaman- any
ninja gaiden

metal gear
paper boy
pwer blade

All of those are great, bolded out some of the one's I really love. Then there's Blades of Steel, Shatterhand, Xevious, Nintendo World Cup Soccer, River City Ransom... Way too many to actually list all of them. Most any game that was Nintendo Hard.

Those were the days... And still, are, thanks to emulators and Virtual Console. Oh, and I do have 3 consoles, but I need to clean them up to get them working again (and bypass the copy protection chip, that's the main reason the damn thing gets so picky)...

Too many plays to choose from. Regular Bowl had 4 and that was enough, lol.

Not much Mario Bros 3 love? I thought that game was amazing. I think it was probably one of the only video games I have beat the whole game(aside for racing games).

I really liked Mike Tysons Punch-out as well. Beat that one too.

Did you miss the "mario bros - any" votes? =)

This thread made me order one of the clone NES systems (the one that I found the least complaints about). I've spent the rest of the day lurking EBay for cheap carts.

This thing plays NES and SNES. So far I've scored the following:
NES:
Gradius
Gradius II (Life Force, Salamander, whatever you want to call it)
Castlevania III
Punch Out!!

SNES:
Gradius III
Mega Man X
Flashback

Why do that?

Emulators + a good PC controller seems to be a better route, or Wii + Virtual Console if you have one.

Either way saves you from having to hunt for old carts which may be of varying levels of functionality.

Nostalgia, a stack of carts is awesome.

If I'm not happy with the clone console, I'll be getting original consoles too.

I totally agree...I played the shit out of Tecmo Super Bowl...11 on 11, broken up passes (there were no incomplete passes in Tecmo Bowl), all the real teams, it was a huge step forward. Bo Jackson in EXCELLENT condition? Unstoppable. And the playoffs were intense in a way that new football games just don't replicate.

All my other faves have been mentioned except for perhaps my favorite...River City Ransom...It was like Double Dragon with a better story line and a lot of RPG components. Your guy bought books and learned martial arts moves, gained all kinds of stats, and got to use lead pipes, baseball bats, chains, and could pick up trash on the street and throw it at people. You even fought the Double Dragon twins at the end (and yes, they even played the theme music). Anyone else play this game?

A HEM.

Nintendo World Cup Soccer is actually part of the same Kunio-kun franchise as River City Ransom. Same characters and graphical style.

AWWWWWWW SONNN! YA'LL BEST RECOGNIZE!!!!!!!! River City Ransom was (still is) sweet! Highly innovative for its day.

A lot of games on the NES and SNES were great.

There is a volleyball game that had power ups that was extremely fun. I can't remember the name of it. :x

The precursor to Zelda was a game called The Magic of Scheherazade. If I remember correctly, that game was hard. arggh

Sweet thread. Don't currently have a NES but do have a SNES with Super Mario Allstars which covers a bunch.

A few good NES games not yet mentioned:
A Boy and His Blob
T&C Surf Designs
Blaster Master

An anyone who was a Contra fan, I've been playing Shadow Complex recently (xbox 360 arcade) and loving it up! It's like a beefed up Contra.
