Girlfriends bag

Postby mickas » Fri May 20, 2011 10:40 am

My girlfriend plays along with me and friends most of the time, she plays tournaments in advanced women (sometimes open if field is small). She can consistently throw 250 - 300 but I've seen her get it out further. I'm essentially just looking to get her keeping her throw consistent and possibly trying to improves her driving distance.

Her bag is as follows.

Drivers:

Dx valkyrie x2 (one newish, one beat, both 173)
Dx Cheetah 175 new overstable
Dx Cheetah 175 really thrashed - turnovers
Dx Cheetah 174 beat - straight
10x kc pro cheetah 169 - straightish
Dx firebird 170 - kind of beat, really overstable

Mids: She can actually get her mids out to around 250 or so

Dx san marino roc 175 - overstable
Opto fuse 178 - straight
Dx Stringray 175 - beat - turnovers

Putters: she doesn't drive with putters often but when she does it's on holes under 200 feet

Glow magic - 174 - main putter, really beat
Yeti pro aviar 175 - upshots/drives

any feedback or critiques to possibly help increase her distance would be great.

Does your GF throw flick or backhand? My girl was an ultimate player so she had a flick, I had her tossing a pro leopard about 200 ft, then I gave her my super beat 155ish R-Pro boss which was way too flippy for me (after 1 telephone pole on the first toss) and she bombed it! She started putting it about 100' past her old throws to 300'+. Its flippy so her accuracy isnt always there but she can get distance consistently. If your darlin wants to try one they only cost about $8 and if its too stable to start, you can bomb it against one tree and it becomes flippy instantly.

Looks like a solid bag. Have you considered dropping driver weights down into the 160s to see if it yields greater distance?

Banshee might be more useful than Firebird if she is throwing 250 - 300. Might also consider DX Gazelles if she needs more stability in her fairway drivers.

with the cycling of the cheetahs I think she likes the different stabilities she gets out them, she throws backhand and i should have mentioned she usually hyzer flips everything (something we are working on correcting). Banshee... sounds like a good idea, i might have her give that a try, then she would be able to use it for more than short spike hyzers.

As for the boss suggestion, I would consider it but she throws backhand and has very small fingers, she would have a lot of grip issues with a rim that big, and also her distance isn't quite to the point where I think she should really be moving up past valkyries or even cheetahs for that matter.

Yeah tiny hand and backhand with bosses are awful combos. I agree with moncacy that dropping weights is probably the easiest thing to help her distance, even the biggest arms like Avery drop weight when their trying to gain distance; and the distance record is held with a 160something valk

As has been said, I would drop the weights to 165-170 (at least). At her power, she won't lose very much dependability from lowering the weight, but will get quite a bit out of distance. It will be much easier for her to throw. She could probably manage to lower the driver weights closer to 160.

I've often pondered the idea of dropping the weights on her discs also but she doesn't like the lighter ones, she really prefers the predictability and she seems to grip lock a lot more with lighter discs. I'll give it another try and see if we can make some progress, again I'm appreciating the feedback guys!

added 168 dx beast to her bag today, she threw it about 300-310 accurately, her distance is continuing to increase.

Glad your trying to help your girlfriend out instead of being like the dudes around here who just hand them a boss and laugh at every throw. Kind of surprised she doesn't like lighter weights, but I guess the whole 'light discs for women' theory doesn't hold true for everyone. I actually know a few guys who have bought their gf's cheetahs and said that they've had great success with them. I'd just stick with fairway drivers in the weights she has. I like the disc selection, kinda cool to see a girl throwing max weights.

A DX Beast is a great disc for people with weaker arms and beginners. I'd throw a pro leopard in there sometime and see how she does.
