Peeling

What causes contact paper to peel when dipping the disc into the dye, it's happened twice to me now, both times near the center and at a cut. I double checked everything and am pretty confident it was pressed down well but peeled up on me ruining the job.

Figured I'd ask here before I botched another one, thanks for any help.

tiny air bubbles that are expanding when coming in contact with the heat of the dye.

that and the cheap adhesive used in contact paper. If you have a sign shop anywhere near you go and visit them, show 'em your disc and ask nicely for scrap vinyl. Unless there is another dyer in the neighborhood you can walk out with enough good sign vinyl for several discs. Also, there's another DG site that has a thread about free 3M sign vinyl, it's not my favorite stuff but people use it and it is great for practicing on.

too much acetone in the mix will do that as well. are you using acetone?

I've also had some minor peeling issues with too much heat.

thanks guys, I haven't had any luck with the print shops yet but I did decide to try minimal heat and just dye it longer, turned out ok, looks a little better in person than in the photo, the black is deep and lines are clean.



Nothing spectacular but I'm happy with it for a first successful dye.
