Merry Christmas! I'm heading out to the mountains where there's not a great selection of brew available so I loaded up a few for the week.

Rouge - Yellow Snow IPA

Some Cider and Perry

Tried my first Ten FIDY last night...delicious! Like motor oil in a can Gonna crack open a Rahr & Sons Bourbon Barrel Winter Warmer at my wife's birthday dinner tonight, and tomorrow the local Flying Saucer is tapping a cask of Saint Arnold BB Winter Stout!

I had a Rahr and Sons BB Winter Warmer last night. Fucking delicious!!! The hops is still a bit aggressive. Just be sure so save 1 or 2 to age. I need to be on the lookout for the BB St. arnolds winter stout.

I've got 2 more bottles of the Winter Warmer put away for next year, if I can wait that long.

The St Arnolds BB Stout was kinda disappointing. I just got a small 2oz taster pour to try it first, and didn't like it enough to order a full glass. The bourbon was a little overwhelming and the body and taste were very thin for a stout. Glad I tried it, added it to the list of "haves", but probably won't drink it again. I'd still say its worth a try if you like bourbon though.

Today I got a bottle of Avery The Reverend from my sister in law that I opened with dinner earlier, and I bought a bottle of Allagash Curieux with some of my Christmas cash. About to crack open a Ska Nefarious Imperial Porter to finish off this Christmas evening

My brother bought me a couple 6'ers for Christmas from the local micro that just started bottling. I've had all their offerings from tap/growler, but it was a welcome change to pull a cold bottle from my fridge.

Roy Pitz Best Blonde Ale is a smooth crisp ale, light lemon taste, very enjoyable.

Roy Pitz Daddy Fat Sacks is their IPA, nice aroma with a strong hop flavor without any overpowering bitterness.

Mmmmm, beer trading. Not a bad idea but shipping costs and breaks....not sure. I am not an expert here.


Anybody have tried Spaten Optimator (doppelbock)? I tried it last night. I liked it.

I am looking forward to my two week winter break off from work and plan to try a couple different winter seasonals.

Got a case of Yard's "Ales of the Revolution" from my boss for the holidays:




Thomas Jefferson's Tavern Ale
Decent. Advertised as a Golden Ale, I'd say it's akin to a denser Bass or something along the lines of a Pale Ale.

Poor Richard's Tavern Spruce Ale
Interesting. Not great, but interesting. Because of the spruce that's included during the boil it tastes kind of like a lighter IPA that has the wrong balance of hops/malt.

George Washington's Tavern Porter
IMO, this is the best of the three. Dark, faintly smoky, and fairly smooth without being too bitter. I'm not a giant Yard's fan, but I would drink this one again.

And I personal favorite that I can't fucking find anywhere (keeping in mind that PA has some fucked up archaic beer laws. I found this tucked away in the beer cooler at a Whole Foods that's 30 minutes from my house):

Also, on the menu, Sierra Nevada Northern Hemisphere Harvest, Blvd Tank 7, and a Battered Boat Coconut Creme stout to be adventurous

It's funny that you put this up because I tried some tonight. It was a lot like their white ipa collaboration with Deschutes. The wheat wine was a bit more boozy though.

@bcr I'm pretty sure we can get the belhaven down here pretty regularly if you ever want to trade

Also tried lagunitas sucks which was pretty damn tastey. Then there was Brooklyn black choc stout. I think Brooklyn falls into the same category as Sam Adams, mediocre at best. And last but not least I finally learned how to read the freshness code on avery bottles so I was able to get a fresh dugana dipa.
