Any good? Deloused/Octahedron good? Or another Francis The Mute? Saw them twice while I was in San Diego... the first time was their Bedlam in Goliath CD release.

Personally, Bedlam is my favorite Volta CD (I hear Jesse707 cursing right now), but I really love all of the work that Cedric and Omar have done. I'm a big fan of Omar's solo work as well, so I've gotten to listen to a good deal of his brand of progressive-ish rock. I would compare it more to Octrahedron before I compared it to Frances the Mute because there's a serious lack of 10 minute guitar solos. I actually thing this is one of their darker albums in terms of the atmosphere. There's a lot of 1970's fuzzed out synths in dissonant keys which have an unsettling feeling. The songs are shorter and more compartmentalized, which is another character of their later work. Omar said he's given up some of the control in the studio to try to actually make Volta function like a band. The CD is growing on me; it reminds me of how Radiohead's "The King of Limbs" got better with time. I miss Pridgen drumming, but Dantoni is good and has a lot of similarity to their first drummer, John Theodore. It's a more psychedelic drumming style (as opposed to Pridgen's "can I destroy these drums by hitting them hard" approach).

I've only seen them once, and it was for the Octrahedron tour. I didn't know much about the band (I listened to ATDI a good deal my freshman year in college right before they broke up) and have since bought all of their albums.
