<175' Approach, What Do YOU Throw?

I'm deciding on a new approach disc, and want to know what you throw.

I try to throw a challenger on anything under 250 although I have no problem powering down a Buzzz or stalker

Agree on the putter.

The question is at 175', with let's say an unobstructed view of the basket, which line do you take?

In the past, I would throw a controlled anhyzer with a slightly used putter, but lately I've worked on a stall hyzer flip shot that's deadly accurate.

I don't want to buy a new approach/short drive disc.every month to maintain the stability. Trees suck.

You can throw a very understable putter 175'. I throw a 167g beat beat beat early run wizard (no bead left) and am able to control it. With a little hyzer, you can get anything to fly straight at 175'.

Or learn the left-to-right line.

Unobstructed view - D P2
Left finish - D P2
Right finish - D P2 flick

I've forced myself to learn one disc for all these shots and it's payed off. Anything longer, and it's my flat C MD2 - same goes for that disc, forehand or backhand depending on the finish. At these distances, you need finesse, not power, so even a forehand shot should be doable with a putter and/or mid.

The other option, as already mentioned, is to learn turnover lines with less stable plastic. I personally trust my flick more than my backhand for a right turning finish. But then again, this depends on the green. If it's a flat green, I'll flick. If it's a L-R hill with a right finish, I'll turn over my P2 on an anhyzer stall and hope it doesn't roll.

Good news my friend. You won't have to buy a new putter every month because putters, even ones that hit lots of trees, can maintain their stability for a long time at shorter distances.

I also prefer a beat up putter for those distances anyway. The loss of a bit of LSS means they fade out less and can be manipulated on more lines.

I've got a 2 and a bit years old soft-x challenger and I can still smash it full power and it'll do a very slow nice hyzerflip turnover, and it has taken A LOT of heavy hits. Putters don't really degrade as badly as drivers do.

I'm with everyone else...putters are always easier to range than mids or drivers. Just throw your putter.
