<175' Approach, What Do YOU Throw?

Yeah, if your putter can't handle a 175' throw it's going to be crap in the wind. I use Wizards. I can't imagine how long it would take to beat one to the point where it won't work for a 175' shot. My guess it it would get brittle and shatter before that happened.

I've discovered recently that it is SOOOOO much easier for me to range shots that short by flicking a putter rather than trying to throw backhand. I've become so much more accurate, and I'm not at all a strong forehand player.

I try not to push a disc close to its limits. The closer a disc gets to its maximum distance (for a particular player), the more precisely it must be thrown to be effective and the easier it is to mess the shot up. So for me the Rattler usually sees duty within 100 feet. A Magnet comfortably goes out another 50 feet (depending on the wind). After that the Buzzz gets the call out to 250 feet or so. In crazy winds these general rules not longer apply and I purposely add discs to my bag ( Soft Banger GT, Z Wasp, Z Zone) and switch to overstable drivers (Crush, Talon) even for shorter shots.

Inside 150 feet (putter range) I am equally comfortable forehand or backhand. Outside of 150 feet my forehand is better.

I don't want to buy a new approach/short drive disc.every month to maintain the stability. Trees suck.

Good news my friend. You won't have to buy a new putter every month because putters, even ones that hit lots of trees, can maintain their stability for a long time at shorter distances.

I also prefer a beat up putter for those distances anyway. The loss of a bit of LSS means they fade out less and can be manipulated on more lines.

Frank Delicious has it right. I carry 2 Soft Magnets for upshots. The beat up one gets used 10-1 over the fresh one. An overstable putter is going to hyzer out as it slows down. A beat putter will hold the line you put it on. So one disc does it wants to. The other does what I want it to. So unless I need to fight headwinds or hyzer sharply, my beat up Magnet gets the call.

I'm definitely more comfortable flicking a Magic for this distance. I've had a hell of a lot of difficulty learning to throw slow, backhand approaches, so I just started flicking and it's worked out pretty well for straight, anhyzer, and hyzer. My sidearm isn't good for much else besides this shot. Mostly for fun I've also started throwing flick rollers for some approaches and they're becoming pretty accurate, too.

Usually Jokeri. Swan if it needs to finish right. Dart for low lines. I feel ridiculous carrying so many different putters these days... Just don't feel confident enough with other stuff.

That happens for me, too. I've sunk more ~90' approach shots throwing forehand than I have backhand several times over.

Like this thing is trashed. But I can do every shot with it

It's an approach putter only. If you can learn to do everything with a trashed putter it opens up your game in so many ways

Opto Pure mostly, usually nose-up straight shot or slight anny, so it stalls right near the basket. Or a Firm V.P. when the shot calls for hyzer line, forehand throw, or there's lots of wind.

I putt with soft Millenium QMEGAs and they are too unstable for upshots, so I keep my Innova stiff big bead DX Aviar (175g) for up shots and short drives. Almost the same mold. Very stable and will handle a lot of wind. I tend to put a little air bounce on it so it straightens out for short up shots with a lot of spin and lands flat.

Until he throws one. Very few of their Evo plastic blends seem to have any glide, and they are not as overstable as a fresh wizard should be.
