Fractured Fibula. Spiral fracture 1.5" long undisplaced.

Almost two weeks ago now, throwing a long uphill shot on wet dewey morning grass. Planted my front foot RHBH weight to far back (damn hills) and completely slipped, of course my back/left leg was under me so when I slipped I landed awkwardly on it and it snapped. Sounded like breaking a hard stick. Another month in the boot then rehab.

Heard from the Docs that my fracture is about the best break I could have, as in healing and recovery. Im already starting to put weight on it. The Fibia only takes about 10% of the weight supposedly. Doc says I can probably start walking on it with the boot on in a week or so. As far as throwing adn everything, probably another 6 weeks. Depends on how fast it heals, guess everyone is different.

Sorry to hear that. I was in ankle surgery two days ago but it was a simple operation and i'm already walking. Should be back to work in two weeks and throwing in three or four weeks and i'm pissed because i got to play only on one summer day conditions wise this season so far. So i think i may have an idea about cabin fever with the two longest winters in memory behind me. Not being able to walk sucks so i know how you feel. When i got out of surgery i was using two walking sticks and gave way to a guy in electric wheelchair because he was faster and said that to the guy that was making sure i got home safely and the guy in the wheelchair had fun Hope you'll get mobile soon. The timetable you expect to play in seems really fast but of course bone vs soft tissue is a different matter regarding healing pace. Whats crazy to me is how Levi Leipheimer took 5th place in the Tour of California 6 weeks after breaking his Fibula. He was training 4 weeks after the car hit him.

I had exactly the same injury and was told I would be walking soon too by the general practioner. I saw an orthopedic surgeon though who informed me I had torn ligaments in my ankle (very common for this break) and if I didn't get surgery my ankle would have to be fused in a year. Just an FYI in case in case you haven't been to an ortho specialist.

Bigg- Im pretty sure I dont have torn ligaments as Ive been walking (sort of) for the last week or so without the boot. Still taking it slowly and it is slow but Ive noticed marked improvement over the weeks, need to go back in soon for xrays again. Little nervous about it. They did say surgery is a possibility. I think that with the severe sprain plus bone fracture combo, things probably are on schedule. Definitly not playing yet like I had hoped.

Finally back playing after 2 months. Ankle/Achilles/Calf are very weak, around 50%. Lost some distance of course since everything has slowed down. But good news is that everything has healed fine and now its just back to trying to regain strength.

Since your condition has suffered that much i suggest discing up with as low fade faster glidey discs as possible. River, FD, Squall, Coyote, Warship light Blizzzard discs so that you don't need to take fast steps and still get some D without sacrificing a lot of accuracy and not needing to push too hard. Which often rapes form adding more than normal amount of torgue, twisting and what have you on the body.

Yeah I cant run up with any speed now and my form is suffering too, every day though gets a bit better. I ended up throwing my Blizzard Katana quite a bit on open holes to get some D. Im about 30-40 feet shorter then before on max D. Max D, I got none. Haha.

I still remember cracking my tibia in half when I was in 2nd grade...ouch!

Good to see you getting back into the swing of things. It won't be long before you're back to 100%.

Ankle is getting stronger Id say 80%. Still dont have enough strength to get a full true motion. All in all I have to be thrilled, as far as I can tell no long term range of motion issues or anything.

Yeah, bones heal nicely, the thing to worry about for long-term impact is joints, cartilage, etc..
