I recently picked up a 171 star firebird thats pretty flat as an overstable complement to my valk. i had no other discs to compare plh with so i took the chance. As it turns out, its the most overstable disc in my bag. no matter how hard i throw, its gonna hook pretty much as soon as it leaves my hand.
Is this normal? what are the preferred variants of Firebirds?

Yep, that's what Firebirds do. Overstable compliment to your Valk might be a Starfire.

The newest run of Champion FB is super overstable. I think (but I'm not sure) the Star FB isn't such a meathook, but still very overstable. I prefer DX FBs, they are not that overstable and when worn they serve as excellent control drivers. On the other hand, if you're looking for an overstable driver, the DX FB beats in maybe too fast.
Pro FB is out of production, I think. It wasn't as overstable as Star/Champ FB, someone said it's the FL (firebird-L). Most of people around here where I live say the FL sucks, but I was very happy with my Pro FB.

the FL come in star plastic as well and sounds like more of what you are looking for. It has more of a straight then fade flight rather then the c curve of a FB
magnet/titanic, breaker, mako, trident, glide, zombee, tsunami, xs, surge, tern.
i have seen monkey sh!t fights at the zoo more orginized then this.

The Orion LF shares the firebird wing but is less overstable. A QOLF will be the most overstable followed by Sirius and the MOLF after that.

This. Get yourself a SOLF. I find it to be a good complement to the Valk.

A buddy of mine has a solf he doesn't like. Maybe I'll borrow it for a bit. Thanks!
