My mids are all hooking. Equipment or OAT?

Postby AcesAZ » Mon Oct 22, 2012 1:17 pm

I have several mids and the only one that wont hook is my sentinel, and what I mean is that will when thrown flat take off straight at the target for the first 150-200 feet then turn over and keep turning right. WTF. It bugs the crap out of me. I have a M-Sent that doesnt do this. The other mids I own are KC Pro Roc 176, P MD2 172, Coyote star 180. I also have a Fuse that has a gradual turn all the way which is fine and I love it. The discs are not very beat either.

I should also say its not a putter or driver deal really. And my mids fly in the 280 range thrown full.

No kidding. It sucks. I throw what I think are perfect throw and I end up in the woods or somewhere 40-50 feet right offline. Maybe I just need more hyzer cause these discs flip and turn. The Roc pisses me off the most. Its a great disc, it just wont fade like it should or I think it will. Maybe it is beat in some I guess, IDK.

What putters are you throwing? And about how far? How do they behave exactly?
Drivers?
Can you make a video with the mids?

What kind of grip are you using?

Very strange that a brand new 176g Roc would turn over for you at <200 feet...

Throwing 280 with bout 300 max with roc, they are straight to 150-200 then start turning over and finish right and finish at 280 to 300 max.

Power grip.

Putters- Z Challenger, EZE Pure, Magic. Magic turns over a bit. Pure very slight turn but mostly straight. Challenger holds any line. 245 with Magic. Challnger and Pure 255-260 on full rips.

Several drivers but a 175 Pro Leopard flys with slight turn and finishes straight, Destroyers are max D drivers. Champ wont turnover and headwind disc. Beat in pro flips 15-20 degrees. Blizzard flips 25-30 degrees. Z Stalker holds any line till finish, very minor turn.

Im starting to think that maybe the discs are beat in and maybe Im throwing with more power then earlier this year too.

I think you have a problem gripping your mids. Most likely culprit is OAT. Try varying your grip with the mids.

Also agree OAT + sounds like you're not getting enough spin on the disc, which all goes back to grip and release mechanics. Try to feel and throw the center of the disc, getting your pinch point around the center of mass while entering the power zone at the hit.

Definitely try a different grip with your mids, like a Climo grip or birdie grip. Putters are usually deeper than mids, so that might explain why your putters aren't OATing but your mids are.

I'll try working on that grip and see what happens. I cant see any disc wobble at all, but maybe its slight.

Grip shouldn't matter, it's a problem of not keeping your plane as you finish your shot/follow through.

The discs turn strangely late and that is not a normal flight path. If you used an understable or a beat disc late turn could be the thing which would be a great bonus from throwing purely -not a problem. In case it is not from pure form and plane breaking low with the arm dropping in the follow through it could be finger sticking or scraping. Try a one finger power grip to see the same flight happens.
Flat shots need running on the center line of the tee and planting each step on the center line. Anhyzer needs running from rear right to front left with the plant step hitting the ground to the left of the line you're running on. Hyzer is the mirror of that.

It was a plane problem. Elbow breaking and coming across a touch. Little tweak and the discs are flying perfect. And I wanted to blame the discs, ;)
