Hey Texans...

Looks like I'm going to be in Houston around the 28th through the 30th. Any recommendations? Looks like Shawshank is a must hit...

I've heard Sam Bass is pretty good. If Quail Valley is still open, that was a great set of courses (3). I think they shut them down after an A tier I played there several years ago. It was built on an old PGA Tour golf course. I don't think the country club community fell in love with the disc golf community that day. IIRC, Barsby won that tourney.

Think its worth the 2 hour drive to visit Austin? I'd love to lay a big ol' Yankee fart deep in the heart of the south(Discnation).

Tom Bass? Forgettable in my opinion. All flat, wide open and covered in mosquitoes. Spring Valley was a fun play- half open on the golf course and half in the woods. It was my favorite of the courses I played in Houston area

Having spent a week in Houston, I would drive to Austin if I went again.

Well, I got all those names wrong. Obviously, I don't get down to Houston much.

Austin is well worth the trip. Circle C, Seawright, et. al. are fantastic.

That's one I haven't had a chance to play, but it's next on the list. I can't wait.

WilCo is another good Austin course. Twin Parks used to be pretty good, but I heard they went downhill a bit. Circle R has two great courses when it's open. Pease was awesome (R.I.P.).

Damn, I wish I lived in Austin. Here, it's, "let's play at Live Oak... again..." (Universal City has a pretty nice course, too.)

Remember to reserve for Shawshank.
Spring Valley
Texas Army Trail for wooded finesse course.
Windwood Presbyterian
Oak Meadows, you'll need to ask someone on DGCR who lives in the community to guide you as the course isn't opened to public.

All of these are in Northwest Houston Area except Shawshank which is north.

I'm not familiar with south Houston. I hear Jack Brooks is good.

Really depends where you're staying at and how free you'll be to drive and play.
Dedicate a day for those courses and then a day in Austin if you can. (2 to 3+ hour drive to ATX depending where you're staying)

Yeah Austin courses are way better than anything not named Shawshank in Houston. Plus it is a 3+ hour drive to south austin where most of the good stuff is

The closest course to Austin from Houston is also the best course in the Austin area. This course is called East Metro Park, it is located in Manor TX(about 15 minutes east of Austin). If you drive to Austin, this is the one to play, hands down.

North Austin courses to play:
WILCO - it lost a lot of trees, but it is still a great course. Nice mix of technical and distance. Nicely wooded

South Austin to play:
MetCenter - long with lots of OB. Nicely manicured year round by the land owners. My main watering hole after work.
Circle C - The best overall course not named Manor. Mix of everything Austin golf has to offer.
Roy G - Its a big course, but gets repetitive fast. Great tee-boxes, but I honestly rank it last of any of the courses I am listing here.

West Austin to play:
Austin Bible Ridge - super technical, lots of elevation changes. A favorite of mine, but its far out in west austin, and the course still is a work in progress. very raw, but amazing raw.

Let me know if you make it to Austin. I'll play with your dumbass

You got a deal Zj, thanks for the heads up.

I mapped it out as a 2.5 hr drive from my hotel to DiscNation so I'll probably be heading up in the morning of friday the 31st, spend the day and head back to the hotel after dark. Thinking I can hit 2 maybe 3 courses in that time. Sounds like East Metro Park, MetCenter, and Circle C if possible. You guys care to explain what you mean by needing to "reserve" at shawshank?

Hows the weather down there, hot? Snakes an issue?

Thanks LY. That's odd... Never seen anything like that in the northeast.

I didn't say it before but I'd love to have a round with anyone in the area if they're willing. Course guides are awesome :)
