I just got a motorcycle in march, got my license last month.
(1982 yamaha 650 seca)

I've been driving it to work and to the local discgolf course.

once i get the balls, i'll start traveling the highways out of town to play some courses.

Im currently selling my car, and Im strongly considering buying a bike, something like a yamaha virago.
Ive been around them my whole life, my parents garage is full of harleys.

that gas milage will rock!

i've heard that bikes below 500 cc are easy to "grow out of," though.

viragos can be from 250cc all the way to 750cc (mabey higher), Im looking for something in the 500cc range, although a 250 would be a better beginner bike.

I own a 91 Honda CBR 600 F2.

Have owned it since '93.

Crotch Rocket. Looks better then new.

My advice as a long time rider?

Wear a helmet. Gloves. A jacket is always a plus. Even if it's hot wiping away a little sweat beats scrubbing road rash clean. Ouch.

i rode out of town this monday to play discgolf.

i will say that i am sore from the riding. it was an 80 minute ride on 1 lane road. i was bucking wind and oncomming semis. speed limit was 55.

my throwing arm was super sore (sucks that it was the throttle arm too!). my legs were also sore from holding on too tightly.

i have a yamaha 650 (middle weight class) no windshield or fairing. yikes!

A lady I work with, her dad is selling a bike. This would be my first rocket, but I grew up with dirt bikes and atv's. It is a 1993 Yamaha fzr 600. It was laid down in a pursuit, and he bought it at a police auction. It runs perfect and looks okay. It is primer black with red wheels. He only wants $800 for it, but it needs a new ignition and key, as it is being started with a screwdriver right now. What do you guys think? Good first bike? Good deal? Thanks!

for a first bike, i recommend getting anything that you can get cash.

for a 600 1993 $800 is a great price. it should run for 20+ years. you will get your money's worth.

mine needs a new ignition switch. but i can live with the minor things as long as it runs.

just bought a ninja 250 yesterday and pick it up tomorrow. it will be my first road bike but makes a great beginer bike. its fits me great too as i am 5,6 150 so its not to heavy and i can flat foot it fine. can't wait to get out and ride. i will post some pics when i get a chance.

I am in the middle of my MSF class (well inbetween days...), and am now even more excited to get my bike. Although I should have learned my lesson after spending the last 4 years now restoring my car, I am leaning away from just getting a reliable low milage ninetys bike.

I am thinking going late 70s early 80s and makign a sweet cafe' racer/ bobber...
thinking of basing it on a 650 CB or mabey a Suzuki XS 750 triple, theres one near by for 800$ and would make a good base, could have the cafe look but still two seats? (if I had the money to buy it w/ out selling my car...)

I think if I have a moment of spare time I will draw up some prototypes to work my ideas out...

Oh y'all are talking about crotch rockets. I was looking along the lines of a Harley classic.

we have 5 harleys in the garage right now (two junkers we are just storing and my parents bikes) I definately see the appeal of a crotch rocket, however, I plan on riding daily and would perfer anything else. They may be the fastest, and the 600s may handle better than anything, but outside the track there are many options that will keep up w/ most crotch rockets. I am just about set on a early 80s standard that I will be able to ride the crap out of and really learn the bikes limits instead of buying something that I would either a. get bored of really fast (i want at least a year) b. kill myself on or c. be intimidated by the weight of a 800 lb bike
