Starter discs for Ultimate players

What about the sonic? it even has the ridges that ultimate discs have.

It depends on whether they just want to go out and play or if they want to learn to throw golf discs. If the discs are too similar to lids there won't be much of a benefit of learning to throw them if they're already proficient with lids. They might as well just throw Ultrastars.

The Comet is a great disc for an ultimate player.

An ultimate player can throw a Comet 300' when they get the hang of it. I don't know if the Whitler would ever go 300', unless you're throwing down a ski slope.

I used to recommend the TeeBird to beginners who I thought could handle it (athletic build, etc.), but I found that the TL is usually a great starter driver, then it's easy for them to transition to a TB when the time comes. Then a lighter Roc and an Aviar (because you've got to start 'em on the right path).

Maybe a Gazelle? Just a thought...

There is a reason that the innova starter pack is an Aviar, Shark and a Leopard. The Shark and the Leopard around 168 are a good combo to start with.

I started with a TB

I've known some Ultimate players that picked up the Roc pretty quickly. They said it was nice that it was a little bigger, it seems to fly a little slower, and once you learn it you can put some nice touch on it. I think I would second the Cheetah or the Leopard though. And the Wizard.

My friend is mostly an ultimate player and came to watch me in a mini. I let him use my sidewinder and he had some good results with that. He ended up getting a roc and apparently is throwing them almost as far as I can (350') I also gave him an old aviar.

I would deffinitely recommend either a roc or even moreso a buzzz for an ultimate player since they have a small rim width and amzing glide.

I am a fairly new player with an old school "lid" backround.
The best combo I have found thanks to Blake and the crew here is (I only know Innova right now) all DX; Cheetah, Shark and Aviar P&A. I also added a DX Leopard for my right turning shots.
Working for me right now.
