I think you may be thinking of Hagg Lake out in Forest Grove. If you're on a "just for kicks" kind of road trip and aren't too concerned with reaching a certain destination by a certain time, I'd highly recommend stopping by The Inn at Lucky Mud. Really good people there, an awesome course that you'd probably have to yourself, and some gorgeous PNW scenery (some of the ferns there come up to my shoulders!). I think it's about an hour off of I-5.

I haven't had the opportunity to play it, so can't comment, but that's what someone was telling me. I've heard there are some good courses on Vancouver Island, though, esp. on Pender Island. Just something to consider.
