I was thinking of stopping by and seeing Bob on the way back down. I've heard it's a great course and covered with cats.

Oh yeah, I forgot you were on ODSA too--of course you know about the Mud. Dur!!! Oh well, anybody else taking a trip through the PNW, Lucky Mud is highly recommended!

Where exactly is Lucky Mud, I've heard so many great things about this place. Some of the best things came from Dave and Avery. How far is it from the Oregon border?

heh, a timely post from Ol' Bob (the caretaker) on ODSA:

The Inn at Lucky Mud is a very nice B&B near Skamokawa, WA. From Exit 42 off I-5 South (North Kelso), it is 42 miles, via SR4 west (Ocean Beach Highway) to our course. It's a great 18 holes with skittish elk and nearly tame deer on the course — no dogs please (the does are soon to have their fawns).

So, if you are north of us, whatever the mile post on I-5 sez, that is how many miles you are from Lucky Mud. The golfing is free but the inn owners ask that you telephone in advance — 360-795-8770.

Of course, those are directions from a WA perspective, but to answer your question, it's not far from the border at all, you just have to take an indirect route to get there.

What's new in the Eugene DG scene? I haven't been on ODSA much. Any news of new courses opening up? Are they still playing down at Laurelwood? Is it still $8 a round?

I've been playing a lot of pre-8am golf so I'm not up to date on the Eugene golf gossip.

Oakway is supposedly all the rage. I'm looking forward to checking it out the next time I'm down there.

Yeah, it's definitely Oakway. They just switched to their Summer rates, I believe $7 a round, but it's usually a 3-hour round without hold-ups. It's a beautiful course and the mgnt really takes kindly to us discers. As far as I know, Laurelwood is planning on only being a Winter course and even then, the powers at hand don't seem to receive us very well. Both are great courses though. I would recommend that you hit up Oakway. They've got a nice little beer girl there, too.

Yeah, I understand where you're coming from. For the most part everyone out there has been pretty cool. But there have been a few groups of guys that acted like a bunch of condescending leather cherrios. You've gotta love Dexter though, maybe I'll see you out there sometime soon.

I'm out there most weekday mornings from 7:30-8:30, I end up doing a lot of running cause I got to get from Dexter to LLC by 8:45, I'm glad there are few cops on that road. You'd be shocked how much speed you can get on the downhill side of pleasant hill!

Just droppin' by to say beware of Lucky Mud Inn in Skamokawa. I drove out there to just kind of look and see where it was and the female owner was out on her tractor. I had my young daughter with me. Keep this in mind. We drove past to turn around and she screamed "who the F**K are you" as we drove past, on a public open access road. Seriously? Through the window of a child? I stopped and said we were just on a scenic drive and apologized and she proceeded to scream vulgarities at us and told us to go back to the Effing city. We're local. That woman is nuts!! I just drove off as she was threatening us, me, a 34 year old woman and my 10 year old daughter who were on a public road driving past her property. Looney tunes!!
